Hiroo Johar who is the younger sister of veteran filmmakers B R Chopra and Yash Chopra was married to another filmmaker named Yash Johar. She along with her husband Yash Johar launched the production house Dharma Productions in the year 1976. She started her career as an associate producer of much acclaimed Hindi film Dostana in 1980.

She has served as the producer of numerous noted Bollywood films like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Naa Ho, My Name Is Khan, Agneepath, and Ae Dil Hain Mushkil among many others. She recently gone sick and therefore was admitted to hospital but she recovered soon and celebrated her 74th birthday with her family.
