Early Life and Political Activism

Albin Kurti was born in Pristina, Kosovo, during the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. In his youth, he became a student leader at the University of Pristina, where he served as the head of the Independent Students' Union. During this time, he organized student protests against the Yugoslav government's policies, advocating for Kosovo's separation from the federation.

Kosovar War

In 1997, Kurti joined the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) and participated in the Kosovo War against Serbian forces. He played a key role in organizing student protests in Pristina and other cities during the conflict. In 1999, he was arrested by Serbian authorities and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Release from Prison and Rise to Prominence

After the fall of Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic in 2001, Kurti was released from prison by the new Yugoslav government. During his time in prison, he gained international recognition as a prominent leader of the Kosovo independence movement. He established strong political connections in Western Europe and the United States, meeting with high-ranking officials in Washington, New York, Brussels, Copenhagen, and Strasbourg.

First Term as Prime Minister

In February 2020, Kurti formed a coalition government and became the Prime Minister of Kosovo. However, his government collapsed in March 2020 after parliament voted against his proposal to declare a state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Second Term as Prime Minister

Following the 2021 parliamentary elections, Kurti's party emerged victorious. On March 22, 2021, the Kosovo Parliament confirmed his second government. Kurti continues to serve as the Prime Minister of Kosovo, leading the country through post-conflict reconstruction and the pursuit of international recognition.
